Wers - Manual

Released 2018-11-18

Manual represents the first time I created music that wasn't supposed to be laughed at. While some of the samples are still dumb or at least pulled from a funny source, the album as a whole was meant to be an earnest collection of songs. My first attempts at music production were from the get-go comedic. I intentionally made the worst music I could. However, while doing that, I also figured out how to use a DAW and how to actually assemble a song. Eventually, I realized I wanted to try a more serious approach. The result was Manual. A light-hearted assembly of seriously-produced tracks that often use stupid sounds.

Of course, it being my first album means that it's very good. I understand a lot of people's debut albums are amazing, but often times we don't actually hear their first album... My philsophy is to share almost everything I make, regardless of it's quality. If I at some point deemed something "finished" or in a state in which I feel I can't add anything more, then I'll usually release it.

When I first made this album, I loved it and I was super proud of it. Nowadays, I still enjoy it's quirks, and I love using it as baseline to compare my talents from then, and whenever now happens to be.

The cover is a picture I took while on a camping trip. Really, it has no connection to the album, and, if I'm being honest, really doesn't fit the mood at all. That being said, I couldn't imagine changing the artwork now. It's integral.

The title, however, is in fact named after the song of the same name. And the song is only called that because it samples my car, which had a manual transmission. (Originally, I was planning on making the cover a picture of that car and I have no idea why I changed my mind on that)

This album took about nine months of very infrequent work to make and at some point after I had all the songs I wante for it, I went back and made a bunch of last minute changes to several songs. Some of these changes I regret, and I eventually hope to remaster this album and revert those changes, so the album is in it's best possible state.

This album is so short that you could probably finish listening to it before you finished reading any descriptions of the songs I write, so I'm not going to bother.
