vuse - sym

Released 2021-07-20

sym is a full album! It's not just synth noodling arbitrarily cut up into separate tracks.c

Each song was actually constructed and had thought put into it. Of course there's still an aire of on-the-fly messing around, but it's all controlled within reason.

Some of this represents my first time using my newly acquired Korg Volca Beats. In fact, the first track on the album is built from the very first thing I ever recorded on the machine.

This album is mostly beat-oriented, since I just got my drum machine and I wanted to use it a lot... Most of the songs just boil down to quick demonstrations of patterns I came up with, with not just more substance than that. However, I think it's a pretty fun listen, and since there's actually thought put into it, there's a bit of structure and progression to the album.

The penultimate track, now add ten, is a more generative track closer in line with my etrast release. It happened accidentally, actually, and I thought all of it was good enough to keep it. Plus, it's extended length works for a crescendo.

The next track is a much more experimental track that has a familiar sound quality.

The final track is one I made months after the rest and wanted to share somewhere, before realizing it works great as an afterparty for sym.

My favourite track, however, is probably dekseka. There's some obvious inspiration in there, and part of the main melody is pulled from somewhere else you might recognize, fully realized.
